Beverly Tonkens Vangrov died in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 15, 2023, at the age of 93.
Beverly was an exemplary steward of the Gerald B. and Beverly Tonkens House for over four decades. The Tonkens House is considered one of the finest and most intact examples of Wright’s Usonian Automatic designs. Beverly married Gerald Tonkens in 1971, joining him in the stewardship of the building, a passion she sustained after Gerald’s passing in 1990. Beverly later married Sherman Vangrov, continuing to live in and care for the Tonkens House until its sale to preservation-minded buyers in 2017. Beverly is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marji and Don Mendelsohn.
