Bach House
Chicago, IL 1915
At the time of its construction, this compact two-story house near the coast of Lake Michigan had an unobstructed view east to the lake. Guests experience the geometric, cubic massing and overhanging flats roofs of the house from multiple angles on a circuitous route to the entry door. In 2009 the house underwent a two-year restoration to return it more closely to its 1915 appearance. It is available for rent as an event space (up to 75 guests can be accommodated in the house and gardens) and for overnight stays. The second floor has two guest rooms with their own bathroom plus a study with a queen-sized sofa bed. A rear pool house built by the previous owner has been converted to a Japanese-style tea house.
