Bachman-Wilson House
Bentonville, AR 1954
Gloria Bachman and Abraham Wilson lived in their Usonian house originally built in Millstone, New Jersey, until 1967. In 2012 the then-owners concluded that saving the house from frequent and intense flooding required relocating it. After extensive study the Conservancy agreed. In January 2014, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art acquired the house. It was reconstructed with the original Philippine mahogany board-and-batten walls, ceilings, doors, windows, built-ins and all of the house’s furnishings on the grounds of the Moshe Safdie-designed museum. A basement was added to facilitate a commercial-sized HVAC system, and a new foundation slab and concrete blocks were built to 1954 specifications. The house opened to the public in November 2015.
