Heller House
Chicago, IL 1896
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Heller House sits on a 75-by-175-foot lot in Chicago’s Hyde Park/Kenwood neighborhood. It has 16 rooms, including seven bedrooms, three full and two half baths, an in-law/au pair apartment, art glass windows, high ceilings, large kitchen with four pantries, and an elevator that serves every floor. In the past two years the current owners added many improvements, including extending the air conditioning to all parts of the home and updating the elevator that Wright included in renovations for the original owners in 1909. The original owners also around that time purchased the lot next door to the north, giving it a large side yard in addition to the back yard directly behind the house. The open side yard allows daylight to the two-story art-glass windows.
