Before its demolition in 1972, sections of Wright’s house for Francis and Mary Little in Deephaven, Minnesota, were preserved by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Minneapolis Institute of Art acquired the hallway that led to the master bedroom. The long, low Prairie-style house featured windows that spanned the entire elevation overlooking Lake Minnetonka. Wright drew elaborate designs for these windows, but Mr. Little did not want an intricate pattern to conceal the scenic lake view. They compromised with borders that frame an expanse of open glass. The hallway was installed in the museum without its fourth wall, which was made up of closets.
