Samara, John and Catherine Christian House
West Lafayette, IN 1954
Known as Samara, after the winged seed motif that recurs in this Usonian design, the Christian House was occupied by its original owner until 2015. The elongated plan includes a living room with seats running along one side and steps down to a sunken area, with the same on the opposite side in the dining area, which opens on two sides onto a lanai that curves from the entrance driveway to meet the master bedroom and guest room. The home was constructed so that decorative elements, such as the copper roof fascia and Philippine mahogany clerestory panels, could be completed after the family took possession of the home.
