Seth Peterson Cottage
Baraboo, WI 1958
This 880-square-foot building occupies a secluded promontory in Wisconsin’s Mirror Lake State Park. Client Seth Peterson’s untimely death in 1960 left the house unfinished. The building was sold, completed and privately owned until 1966, when it was purchased by the state as an addition to the state park. A central fireplace divides the main living and dining area from the small kitchen, which abuts the single bedroom and bath. The exterior and interior walls are locally quarried sandstone. Prolonged neglect reduced the building to near ruin before an extensive rehabilitation project was undertaken from 1989-92. The restored cottage is open for tours and overnight rentals.
