Spring House, George Lewis II House
Tallahassee, FL 1952
Located on five wooded acres on the outskirts of Tallahassee, Spring House (named for the natural spring on the property) is the only private house designed by Wright to be built in Florida. Spring House is one of only 11 houses Wright realized in the hemicycle style, a form characterized by curved and glazed walls that he developed late in his career. It is one of only two hemicycle houses with an unusual boat-like shape. The construction is Ocala block, a type of concrete block popular in mid-century Florida, with tidewater red cypress siding on the exterior and interior mezzanine. Some exterior features, such as the terrace wall and reflecting pool, were not completed.
