2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, and has been a year of hard work, determination and vigilance in the face of threats to Wright buildings.
As we look forward to the next 30 years, we are asking our supporters to make a critical gift that allows us to build on what we have achieved together and pave the way for more success in 2020.
This year, we achieved a significant initiative when eight of Wright’s most significant buildings were inscribed onto UNESCO’s World Heritage List, as part of The 20th-Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. This historic moment in Wright’s legacy is the result of an extraordinary effort by many people over nearly 20 years. The inscription celebrates the importance of Wright’s impact on modern architecture, and raises awareness worldwide of all his buildings.
In 2019 we have worked with nearly 150 Wright-designed buildings and their stewards on a variety of preservation and technical issues.
Advocacy has been at the core of our work for the past 30 years. It requires dedication and constant vigilance, allowing our team to act quickly when a threat emerges. In 2019, we successfully advocated against the construction of a nearly 300-foot-tall high-rise that would have cast a shadow over Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL. After years of negotiating a solution to imminent development threats facing the Lindholm House in Cloquet, MN, the Conservancy celebrated the building’s new life as part of Polymath Park in Acme, PA. Throughout the year, we have worked with the Village of Glencoe, IL, to find a preservation solution to the ill-fated Booth Cottage, which is still under threat of demolition by developers.
To inspire the next generation of architects and preservationists, we provided five fellowships to emerging professionals to attend our annual conference, where they deepened their understanding of Wright’s work by directly experiencing his architecture.
In celebration of all we have achieved together in the past 30 years, we have set out to raise $30,000 by December 31. We need your help to make sure that Wright’s legacy is valued and preserved as a vital part of our artistic, cultural and architectural heritage. Will you support us with a tax-deductible donation today?
Your gift makes a huge difference to the Conservancy, enabling us to share the genius of Wright for the next 30 years and beyond.
